Title

CRS backup or restore with BARS receives a GET_FROM_ARCHIVE_REQUEST failure. The Unable to load clusters.properties; nested exception is: com.cisco.archive.ArchiveSystemIOException: UNSPECIFIED_ERROR; Failed to retrieve /STI/Backup/CRS/clusters.properties error message appears in the BARS log

Core Issue

These are possible root causes of this failure:

  • One backup/restore process is initiated before a previous backup/restore completes successfully.

  • More than one backup server points to the same backup target.

The Cisco IP Telephony Backup and Restore System (BARS) trace file (under C:\Program Files\Cisco\Trace\BARS of the BARS server) shows this error:

[02:10:41 AM]   Inside function modGetFromArchive
[02:10:41 AM]   Connecting to
\\10.10.10.38\C$
[02:10:41 AM]   modGetFromArchive =-2147417842
[02:10:41 AM]   GET_FROM_ARCHIVE_REQUEST failed with error: -2147417842

This issue fails with a GET_FROM_ARCHIVE_REQUEST failure. This failure is independent of any messages about the clusters.properties file.

Resolution

This problem is tracked in Cisco bug ID CSCef13462.

The issue occurs with BARS version 4.0(8) and earlier. However, it was permanently fixed in BARS version 4.0.10.

To download BARS, refer to Software Download, and download MCSBackupSystem.4-0-10.exe.

Perform this installation procedure:

  1. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall BARS 4.0.8.

  2. Run MCSBackupSystem.4-0-10.exe on the Publisher server.

Note: If an upgrade is not desired at this time, perform the workaround steps mentioned in the bug details.

To resolve the issue, perform these steps to shutdown BARS on the BARS server:

  1. Close all of the Internet Explorer (IE) windows in all  Tunnel Switch (TS) sessions and the console.

  2. Go to Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Component Services

  3. In the window that opens, right-click on Component Services>Computers>My computer>COM+ Applications>BARS, and select Shut down.

  4. Restart the Internet Information Server (IIS) Admin Service from the Service Control Panel.

  5. Rerun the Restore/Backup that failed.
